Oil Cleansers

We all know it is important to cleanse your skin daily to keep your pores clean and skin protected. So what’s the deal with oil cleansing?

Adding an oil cleanse in your daily skin ritual is perfect if you wear makeup/spf daily, live and work in a polluted environment, or you have reactive skin that needs a more gentle cleanse.

Most cleansers are designed to cleanse and detoxify the surface of the skin. If there is a layer of makeup or SPF on the surface of the skin, the cleanser will not penetrate those oils or minerals and your skin is still left with dirt and debris.

Since oil binds with oil, oil based cleansers effectively remove makeup (most can also remove eye makeup) and built up surface impurities. When we use oil cleansers as a pre-cleanse to our cleanser, our actual cleanser is able to do its job better and penetrate the skin rather than just moving around makeup.

There are two types of oil cleansers:

1. CLEANSING OILS: vary in consitecy. Lightweight oils (jojoba, argan) are best for oily and acneic skin and thicker oils (olive, coconut, apricot) are best for dry, dehydrated, and fatigued skin.

2. CLEANSING BALMS: Cleansing balms start of as a thicker consistency and emulsify to an oil when heated up with your fingers. Balms are best suited for dry, mature and reactive skin.

Below is a list of our favorites cleansing oils that we have personally tried and loved!

Stone Crop Cleansing Oil: Eminence Organic Skin Care $52

The Stone Crop Cleansing Oil is the first step in every facial at Organic Escape Skin Studio. We love starting with this gentle yet active oil cleanser to remove surface impurities, environmental debris, and makeup without leaving a greasy residue. It’s great for all skin types and it’s fresh smell makes it universally popular. Stonecrop (a succulent plant similar to aloe vera) keeps the skin calm and hydrated while reducing pigmentation and brightening the skin. Jojoba and sunflower oils keep the skin hydrated while microgreens activate detoxifying enzymes in the skin. The Stone Crop Cleansing Oil is our go oil cleanser for any skin type.

Key Ingredients: Stone Crop, Microgreens Complex (Broccoli, Radish and Clover sprouts, and Detoxophane from Swiss cress sprouts), Jojoba and Sunflower Oil

Best for: Oily, Combination, Normal Skin. Anti- Aging and Detoxifying

The Green Balm: Magic Organic Apothecary $25

The Green Balm: Organic Escape Owner, Andrea’s current favorite oil cleanser. First of all, we love that this came with an anti-bacterial bamboo cloth with dual-textured sides...brilliant! The ingredients are pretty standard with a coconut and almond oil base but it is enhanced with yarrow and tea tree. Since it’s a balm consistency it can also be used to soothe and protect skin when it’s dry, itchy, after shaving or minor burns and bites. As an oil cleanser, it emulsifies once it’s warmed up and effectively removes makeup, dirt and oil. The package suggests to use the steam from a warmed bamboo towel pressed on top of the balm to detoxify the skin, then cooling the towel to press on the skin so it tones the pores. This is a great self care ritual that melts away stress and makeup!
